Find Out Where to Start

Before being admitted to SMCC, you will be asked to submit your SAT, ACT, and/or Accuplacer test scores. These scores will determine if you are accepted and which courses you will start in at SMCC. SMCC offers Accuplacer testing, and also offers other testing services, such as proctored tests, for a small fee to students who may be taking classes at another college or university. To learn more, please browse the information below.

On this page:

Do I need testing to be accepted to the College?

To be admitted to the College, you need to submit your:

  • Qualifying SAT, ACT, and/or Accuplacer scores (see test score table below)
    OR
  • College transcript(s) showing that you have taken an English Composition course and/or College Level Math, which will allow you to immediately take college-level courses.

What do my test scores mean?

At SMCC, your test scores are used to place you into college-level or college prep level 1 or 2 courses. College-level courses are courses that count towards your degree. College prep level 1 and 2 courses, while credit courses, do not count towards your degree, but rather prepare you to take college-level courses. To see what classes you place into based on your test scores, use the tables below or download our Test Scores and Course Placement worksheet.

Please note, once accepted an advisor will meet with you to discuss your course placement.

College-Level Placement

If you meet the test scores under college-level placement, you can immediately enroll in classes that count toward your degree.
