Seaside Ceremonies & Receptions

Peter A. McKernan Hospitality Center

Located on the coast with spectacular views of Casco Bay, the McKernan Center offers a quintessential Maine venue for events with up to 100 guests. The McKernan Center is designed in the mission style, which complements the period architecture and its coastal setting. The space includes a welcoming foyer, main lobby, formal dining room and bar and glass-enclosed wraparound porch with breathtaking views.

This facility rental includes:

  • Up to 12 hours of use of all public areas on the first floor.
  • A professional hospitality manager to assist with event detailing.
  • Executive Chef services: menu planning and full supervision of SMCC Culinary Arts students staffing the event.
  • McKernan center tables, chairs, services items, glassware and linens.
  • Free Wi-Fi.
  • Free parking.

Overnight Facilities

Spring Point Field

SMCC: Sperry Tent Spring Point Field

Spring Point field provides extraordinary access to the waterfront with stunning views of the islands of Casco Bay, including direct views of historic lighthouses and forts. This reception site is quintessential Maine.

This field is a blank slate for you to set up your own event from choosing your own event planner and caterer* to your own rentals for tents, chairs, tables, lighting, dance floors and more.

This facility rental includes:

  • Use of the field for set-up, reception and clean-up.
  • Electrical and maintenance support.
  • Landscaping services to ensure the area is well-groomed.
  • Use of adjacent grounds for photos.
  • Administrative support: event details, correspondence, invoicing and contracts.

*Please note, outside caterers must be properly licensed and insured and are responsible for the decoration and table setting of the venue as well as your event planning and execution.

Fort Preble Bunker

The Fort Preble Bunker, located outdoors, provides a stunning backdrop for cliffside ceremonies with panoramic views stretching from Portland Head Light to Spring Point Ledge Light.

This facility rental includes:

  • Use of the Bunker for rehearsal, setup, ceremony and cleanup.
  • On-site event coordinator to assist with any logistical needs.
  • Electrical and maintenance.
  • Landscaping to ensure the area is beautiful.
  • Use of adjacent grounds for photos.
  • Administrative support: event details, correspondence, invoicing and contracts.

*Please note, guests are responsible for renting, setting up and taking down folding chairs the day of the ceremony. We’d be happy to sign for delivery and provide a covered storage location both before and after the ceremony day.

Oceanview Dining Hall

conferences-and-events_oceanview-dining-hall_in-p-image_1200x375_10-16During the summer, our Oceanview Dining Hall is available for indoor wedding receptions and events. The Dining Hall is ideal for groups desiring an indoor reception with a guest list of 110-200.

The Oceanview Dining Hall is blank slate for you to set up your own event from choosing your own event planner and caterer* to your own rentals for tents, chairs, tables, lighting, dance floors and more.

Due to scheduled renovations, the Dining Hall will be unavailable for rentals in the summer of 2017. We are accepting rentals for the summer of 2018.

This facility rental includes:

  • Full exclusive access to the venue during the reserved time.
  • Tables and chairs.
  • Use of the adjacent outdoor patio, with picnic tables and fire pit.
  • Indoor restrooms and custodial services.

All-Faiths Chapel

The All-Faiths Chapel is a very charming white clapboard building with church pews seating 40 people. At the front is an open altar space and a beautiful stained-glass window.

This facility rental includes:

  • Use of the Chapel for rehearsal, setup, ceremony and cleanup.
  • On-call event coordinator to assist with any logistical needs.
  • Electrical and maintenance.
  • Landscaping services to ensure the area is well-groomed.
  • Use of adjacent grounds for photos.
  • Administrative support: event details, correspondence, invoicing and contracts.

Conferences & Meetings

Peter A. McKernan Hospitality Center

The McKernan Hospitality Center offers two private conference rooms that can comfortably seat 18 to 25 with adjacent space for food and beverage service. If you are looking to host a larger meeting, the entire McKernan Center is available to rent and facilitates up to 100 guests.

Jewett Hall Auditorium

The newly renovated Jewett Hall Auditorium accommodates up to 125 people with tiered upholstered seating and individual pull-up writing desks. The hall is equipped with modern audio-visual equipment that is included in the rental. This room is most often used for training sessions or large meetings.

Need additional breakout space? Jewett Hall is ideal, with many available classrooms suitable for up to 40 people per room.

Classrooms and Computer Labs

SMCC has a wide array of classrooms available for rental based on availability determined by the College’s class schedule. Classrooms are ideal for daylong training sessions and can be combined in one building/one hall for the ideal breakout space. They come equipped with all the technology required for a successful day of meetings or training..

Food & Beverage Service

Menus for your events can be customized to adapt to the specific desires and personal tastes of our guests. All meals are designed and executed by our professional staff of chefs, with significant input and execution by our Culinary Arts students. Meals at SMCC are served buffet-style by our student staff. Due to the custom nature of food and beverage service, all prices shall be discussed in advance of the event with a hospitality professional from SMCC.

Valentines Day at the McKernan Center

Celebrate Valentines Day at the McKernan Center on Saturday, February 11. Enjoy a romantic dinner prepared and served by our talented culinary and hospitality students. Complimentary wireless internet is offered to all visiting groups; password and access are included as part of your stay.

Campus Center

Guests of SMCC have access to the Campus Center, which is the focal point of the South Portland Campus. The Campus Center includes the SMCC Bookstore, SeaWolves Café, Library,  community lounges and an ATM.

Parking

There is no charge for parking on campus. Our Conferences & Events team will work with you to determine the best parking area for your event and provide permits.

Spring Point Lighthouse

Spring Point Lighthouse has the unique distinction of being the only caisson-style lighthouse accessible by land and open for public tours. A small fee of $5 is charged to support the Trust’s preservation efforts. For more information, visit the Spring Point Lighthouse website.
