SMCC holds Grand Opening for Intercultural Center

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) held the Grand Opening for the Intercultural Center Monday, November 14.

Carmen Moreno-Díaz, the Director of the Intercultural Center and Intercultural Advisor Shona Workman, were on hand to cut the ribbon, officially opening the Center.

Moreno-Díaz was excited about the growth opportunities at the Center.

“Our main purpose is to help New Mainers, intercultural students, and students who have English as their second or third language succeed academically by creating networks of support,” Moreno-Díaz said. “We are excited to continue with this mission, identifying students’ needs and bridging the gaps to guarantee a positive experience.”

Students, faculty, and staff were given a tour of the space on the 3rd Floor of Howe Hall on the South Portland Campus. They were also able to view other student areas also on the 3rd floor including the Rainbow Room, Student Senate and Phi Thetta Kappa space, and Veterans Resource Center.
