SMCC Foundation recognizes donors, students

The SMCC Foundation held a series of virtual “Community Scholarship Coffee” get-togethers in late April to recognize scholarship donors and recipients and connect them with Foundation board members and SMCC faculty and staff.

During the gatherings, people introduced themselves and talked about what SMCC means to them, while students gave heart-felt thanks for the scholarships they received to help them pay for their education.

Alex Goodwin, an Automotive Technology student who was among the students at the virtual events, said there were no words that could describe his gratitude for receiving a scholarship.

“Getting the scholarship was incredible,” he said. “It made this semester and my graduation possible.”

The Foundation usually holds in-person receptions each year to recognize and spotlight scholarship donors and recipients. But due to pandemic, the meetings this year had to be held via Zoom.

The Foundation this year awarded about $186,000 in scholarships.

Applications are now being accepted for scholarships for the 2021-22 academic year. To apply for a scholarship, students should log on to the MySMCC online student portal, go to My Money and select Scholarship Opportunities.
