Nearly 1,000 people visited SMCC during Fall Open House 2022

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Mother nature played along this past Saturday, helping highlight the beautiful Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) campus during the Fall 2022 Open House event.

Nearly 1,000 people including hundreds of prospective students came to campus to meet SMCC faculty and staff and explore the exciting opportunities at the College. During the event, faculty from SMCC’s degree and certificate and short-term Workforce Training programs, along with staff, were available to answer questions from prospective students and their influencers.

The event which ran from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. provided information about how to enroll, program presentations in classroom settings, and an up-close look at the SMCC’s beautiful oceanside campus including its residence halls.

SMCC President Joe Cassidy addressed the crowd shortly after the doors opened and talked about the palpable excitement from everyone in the room, much of which was from Maine’s new Free College initiative.

“This is an exciting time to be a college student in Maine,” said Cassidy. “Many of you here today are exploring our offerings and looking to learn about our Free College Scholarship. This is an amazing time to learn the skills you need (at SMCC), and get started on a path that will lead to great success in whatever you choose.”
