Financial Awareness Month focuses on smart money management

February is Financial Awareness Month aimed at informing students about financial management tools that can help them be smart with their finances and the costs of their education.

During Financial Awareness Month, SMCC’s Financial Aid Office is encouraging students to fill out the FAFSA, sign up for the iGrad financial literacy tool, and learn about ways to save money and tap into grants and scholarships.

Here are some pointers to help you with your financial management in the Spring Semester and beyond:

  • Fill out the FAFSA. Need money for college? Students who fill out the FAFSA by Feb. 28 will be placed into a drawing for the chance to receive 12 credits worth of free tuition — valued at $1,152 — for the 2021 Fall Semester.
  • Sign up for iGrad. iGrad is an easy-to-use website that provides information and tools to help you manage your money, including your student loans. Sign up for your free account
  • Track your student loans. Keep on top of what you’ve borrowed and prepare for paying your loans at gov.
  • Be aware of the Maine State Grant. If you’re a Maine resident and fill out your FAFSA by May 1, you will automatically be considered for a Maine State Grant of up to $1,500.
