Maine Fire Service Institute helps the cause
When the York County Emergency Management Agency was in need of protective gear for first responders in southern Maine, SMCC’s Maine Fire Service Institute answered the call.
MFSI ended up delivering 250 full-body protective suits and hundreds of pairs of protective gloves that it had in inventory for training. The equipment was delivered to the York County Emergency Management Agency, which then delivered it to fire-EMS departments in York and Cumberland counties.
SMCC’s health science programs have also delivered hundreds of gloves, gowns and protective masks health care providers and first responders throughout southern Maine.
Liam Woodworth-Cook named SMCC Student of the Year
Liam Woodworth-Cook has been named SMCC’s Student of the Year for his academic success and campus and community involvement. He and students at Maine’s six other community colleges will be honored at a virtual Maine Community College System ceremony on April 22.
The seven students who are being honored were selected by faculty and staff at the colleges. In addition to being recognized as Students of the Year, they will each receive a John H. LaPoint Jr. Leadership Award in the amount of $1,000.
