Veterans and Dependents of Veterans can register on the first day – November 15 starting at 6 a.m. Yes, 6 a.m.! Please run your degree audit before registering and please check with the Veterans Services Office in the Advising Office to make sure your classes will be covered by VA benefits.
Veterans and dependents can schedule phone and zoom appointments to review classes you need. For those currently taking classes on campus in-person appointments are available. To make an appointment, contact 207-741-5926 or alainoff@smccME.edu.
Keep in mind, to receive full-time benefits you need to be enrolled in at least 12 credits. The credits must all run the full length of the semester, so please pay attention to start and end dates. If you have classes that only run half of the semester, you will most likely need to take more than 12 credits to be considered as a 12-credit student the entire semester.
The VA COVID exceptions for on-campus classes ends on December 21. If you you receive Post 9/11 Benefits, you will need to take at least one on campus class this Spring to get the full BAH that you are used to receiving.
Once you are certain that you are set with your classes, please remember to go to the MySMCC student portal and request to be certified. Due to new mandates by the VA, Post 9/11 recipients can be certified in mid-December with credits only. Tuition and fees will be reported after add/drop is over in January. All other GI Bill recipients will be certified beginning January 26, as long as there is a request to be certified. Payment is likely to be received before the end of February.
