About our Welding Courses
SMCC offers two courses for those looking to learn welding: Introduction to Welding and Mechanical Welding. Choose the courses that best fit your needs.
Courses:
Introduction to Welding
The course will focus on the operation and safety of basic equipment associated with Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Oxy-Acetylene Cutting (OFC-A). Instruction will benefit anyone working toward a career in the welding field or a career in which welding skills are required. This course is also valuable to the home hobbyist or as a welding refresher.
Time: Offered 3-4 times a year
Cost: $1,250
Location: SMCC South Portland Campus
Mechanical Welding (Introduction, Intermediate, and Advanced)
This 60-hour course will provide introduction, intermediate, or advanced instruction in mechanical TIG welding and includes combined classroom and hands-on lab instruction. Students will work with a variety of metals including aluminum, steel, and stainless steel. Bend test and non-destructible testing will be included. Includes AWS specifications and procedures for D1.1 and D17.1. Qualified students can arrange for AWS Certification. AWS Certification fees are not included in the course fee.

Cost: $1,450
Location: SMCC South Portland Campus
Prerequisites: Advanced courses required Intro to Welding or equivalent
