About the Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Short-Term Training

Coming up in June 2024! No cost to trainees. Earn while you learn.

Become a Medical Assistant in just 9 months while working part-time honing your skills in a physician practice. Southern Maine Community College has partnered with both MaineHealth and Martin’s Point on this exciting new Medical Assistant short-term training program.

This grant-funded, accelerated program will provide you with paid, on-the-job training and mastery of MA skills learned in the classroom. Participants will work part-time in one of the physician practices while attending classes at SMCC, performing their externship hours, & preparing to take their certification exam upon completion of the program. Put Your Skills to Work

Upon completion of this accelerated program you will be prepared to take the Medical Assistant certification exam and enter the workforce as a practicing Medical Assistant.

Interested in continuing to build your skills? Further your education by enrolling in one of our certificate or degree programs which lead to advanced and expanded career opportunities upon graduation.

Prerequisites

To qualify for this training you must meet the following prerequisites:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma,
    GED or HiSet
  • Resident of Maine
  • Proof of authorization to
    work in the U.S.
  • Affected by the pandemic
  • Testing may be required
