About the Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Short-Term Training

Upcoming session: January 2025. No cost to trainees. Earn while you learn.

The Medical Assistant Apprenticeship is an exciting collaboration between MaineHealth Medical Group and Southern Maine Community College.

This grant-funded, accelerated program will provide you with paid, on-the-job training and mastery of MA skills learned in the classroom.

Participants will work part-time in one of the physician practices while attending classes at SMCC, perform their externship hours, & prepare to take their certification exam upon completion of the program. View an informational flyer.

Put Your Skills to Work

Upon completion of this accelerated program you will be prepared to take the Medical Assistant certification exam and enter the workforce as a practicing Medical Assistant.

Interested in continuing to build your skills? Further your education by enrolling in one of our certificate or degree programs which lead to advanced and expanded career opportunities upon graduation.

Offered in January 2025 at SMCC South Portland and on location at a MaineHealth facility.

Prerequisites

To qualify for this training you must meet the following prerequisites:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma,
    GED or HiSet
  • Resident of Maine
  • Proof of authorization to
    work in the U.S.
  • Testing may be required
