About the Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Short-Term Training

No cost to trainees. Earn while you learn.

Become a Medical Assistant in just 9 months while working part-time honing your skills in a physician practice! Southern Maine Community College has partnered with both MaineHealth and Martin’s Point in this exciting new Medical Assistant short-term training program!

This all-expenses paid, accelerated program will provide you with paid, on-the-job training and mastery of MA skills learned in the classroom. Participants will work part-time in one of the physician practices while attending class at SMCC, perform their externship hours, & prepare to take their CMA or RMA exam upon completion of the program.

Upon completion of this accelerated program you will be prepared to take the Medical Assistant certification exam and enter the workforce as a practicing Medical Assistant.

Completion Time & Location

9-months

Offered on a rolling basis. Classroom instruction offered at Midcoast and South Portland campuses. One day in class per week, plus 20 hours per week working in an apprenticeship at a medical facility.

Prerequisites

To qualify for this training you must meet the following prerequisites:

  • At least 18 years old
  • High School diploma, GED or HiSet
  • Resident of Maine
