SMCC Commencement 2025
SMCC’s Commencement Ceremony for 2025 will be held on Sunday, May 18 at the Cross Insurance Arena at 45 Spring Street in Portland, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Gabe Hoffman-Johnson, founder and chief community officer of Portland Hearts of Pine soccer club, will serve as the distinguished speaker at the College’s 2025 commencement ceremony.
Admission is free and tickets are not required. There is no limit to the number of guests who may attend.
Doors open at 12:00 p.m. Please arrive between 12:00 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. As a security measure, the Cross Insurance Arena staff will search all people and bags entering the Arena. Please allow extra time and minimize personal belongings to reduce potential delays.
There will be interpreters for the deaf and hearing impaired at the ceremony. If a graduate requires other accommodations for themselves during the ceremony, please contact the Office of Student Life at 207-741-5967 or email smccdeanofstudents@mainecc.edu.
Cross Insurance Arena has clearly marked seating available to accommodate graduates’ guests with disabilities. Should one of your guests require ADA seating, we recommend that you arrive by 12:00 p.m. as guest seating cannot be reserved.
About the Commencement Speaker
Gabe Hoffman-Johnson is the founder and chief community officer of Portland Hearts of Pine, a purpose-driven soccer club built to reflect the heart and spirit of Maine. A Falmouth resident and Dartmouth College graduate, he was a standout student-athlete and team captain who went on to play professionally before returning to Maine in 2019 to launch the club. Inspired by his family’s legacy of coaching and peacebuilding, Hoffman-Johnson is committed to using soccer as a force for unity, access, and community good.
About Portland Hearts of Pine
Portland Hearts of Pine is Maine’s only professional soccer club, created to unite and uplift communities through the power of sport. Competing in USL League Two, the club is community-built, purpose-driven, and rooted in Maine pride. Its inaugural season includes a Community Ticketing Program that will distribute 1,400 tickets to local organizations, ensuring access for all to experience the team at Fitzpatrick Stadium.
