SMCC students lead holiday food drives

SMCC student organizations are holding food drives on the South Portland and Midcoast campuses to help those in need as the holiday season approaches.

The Student Senate and Phi Theta Kappa honor society are holding a food drive on the South Portland Campus through November 22, collecting nonperishable food and personal hygiene items in marked bins around campus.

The donated items will benefit the Captain’s Cupboard, an on-campus food pantry located in the Captain’s House for students and employees. If you have questions or would like to donate perishable food items, please send an email to kierstenmorrill@smccME.edu.

On the Midcoast Campus in Brunswick, the Midcoast Campus Nursing Club is hosting a food drive through November 25 to benefit the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program, a Brunswick-based organization dedicated to fighting food insecurity.

Donations of nonperishable foods and personal hygiene items can be dropped off at the SMCC Midcoast Campus Learning Commons or at Curtis Memorial Library, located at 23 Pleasant Street in Brunswick.
