Student Spotlight: Nicole Henry

Nicole Henry has known since a young age that she was interested in making a career in the hospitality industry. SMCC is giving her the knowledge and experience both in the classroom and in the field to reach her goals.

After high school, Nicole attended a four-year college to study hospitality. But it wasn’t a good fit so she came to SMCC. Her father had a good experience when he studied building construction here, and she knew she would get a lot of value for her money.

Besides learning in the classroom, Nicole and other hospitality students take a lot of field trips to hotels, event spaces and other places where they learn from pros in the field — allowing her to learn about hospitality first-hand while making connections.

She’s particularly proud to have been chosen for a highly selective Disney College Program internship. For the six-month internship, which starts this fall, she’ll learn all the ins and outs about hospitality at Disney World while living and working at the theme park in Florida. She’ll be learning from a world-famous company while preparing for her future.

Nicole plans to continue her education in hospitality after earning her degree at SMCC. But with so many facets to the hospitality field, she hasn’t yet decided which part of the industry to work in.

“At SMCC, instead of just teachers educating us, students also pick up pointers from other students. Most of us are working in the industry while going to school, so we’re learning from each other as well.”
