Sarah Katz, living her passion

Sarah Katz has made a living in video and media production since graduating from SMCC in 2003. Her latest film is a documentary about Maine’s Moosehead Lake region.

Sarah earned a bachelor’s from Hamilton College, a liberal arts school in upstate New York, after high school before coming to SMCC to learn about video production. The skills she learned here have served as a springboard to a career as an independent filmmaker and media producer.

She now lives in Washington, D.C., and has credits on more than 40 documentaries for the History Channel, National Geographic Television, Biography, Planet Green and Investigation Discovery.

For the documentary “Moosehead’s Wicked Good Plan,” Sarah served as writer, producer and director. The documentary explores the pressures and opportunities in the Moosehead Lake region amid a corporate landowner’s decision to develop much the property.

Sarah says she’s living her passion.

“It’s very rewarding. I love telling stories. I love the technology. It’s a lifestyle it’s not 9 to 5.”
