Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) is proud to announce that Residential Director Britt
Couturier has been recognized with the Maine Outstanding New Professional Award at the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Region I Conference in November. The award honors exceptional early-career professionals in Student Affairs who demonstrate exemplary service, meaningful impact, and strong commitment to their institution and the field.
Couturier, who has served in SMCC’s Residential Life program for nearly four years, was nominated by members of the Student Life team for his leadership, dedication to student support, and ability to build a welcoming, inclusive community in the residence halls.
“This recognition reinforces the heart of the work: showing up for students,” Couturier said. “Their progress, challenges, and wins drive what I do, and I’m committed to supporting them through all of it.”
Assistant Director of Student Life Tori Penny said Britt’s recognition reflects the level of care he brings to every student interaction. “Britt consistently goes above and beyond for our residents. His compassion, professionalism, and calm leadership style have strengthened our community in countless ways. We are incredibly proud to see his impact recognized at the regional level.”
Couturier’s award places SMCC among institutions across New England whose student affairs professionals are shaping the next generation of campus leadership. SMCC congratulates Britt on this well-deserved achievement and thanks him for the extraordinary work he does for the College and its students every day.
