SMCC to host celebration of College’s 70th birthday

Southern Maine Community College is hosting a seaside celebration of the College’s 70th birthday in honor of all the community leaders, alumni and students who been instrumental in the College’s success through the decades.

The public is invited to the event, A Light on the Point, which will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. June 2 at Oceanview Dining Hall on SMCC’s South Portland Campus.

The event will pay special recognition to the Grondin family for its many decades of leadership and philanthropy that have benefited students, the College and the entire Maine Community College System. It will also honor the many leaders, partners, students and alumni who have played critical roles in SMCC’s past, present and future.

“Our 70th birthday is a time when we can look back on SMCC’s many accomplishments in providing educational opportunities that meet the needs of students and Maine businesses,” said SMCC President Ron Cantor. “SMCC has improved the lives of tens of thousands of people, and that’s a point worth celebrating.”

Tickets to the event are $35 and include light fare. Sponsorship opportunities are also available to honor the Grondin family and help SMCC provide student scholarships and enhance academic programs.
