SMCC Athletics Department honors student-athletes

Cameron Cousens and Ryleigh Lord have been named SMCC’s Sports Persons of the Year.

Cousens and Lord were among the many student-athletes honored at the annual Athletics Awards ceremony on May 5. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Athletics Department produced a virtual ceremony in which Athletics Director Matt Richards announced award winners and recognized dozens of student-athletes for their achievements during the 2019-20 academic year.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our student-athletes, their families, our coaches, our athletic trainers and the staff here at the College who helped make this another great year for SMCC Athletics,” Richards said.

Cousens and Lord were each awarded the Carroll Rines Awards as Sports Persons of the Year for demonstrating a high level of determination and commitment to their team and the athletic department.

Cousens, who is majoring in Electrical Engineering Technologies, played on the men’s basketball and baseball teams. Lord, who is in the Hospitality Management program, played on the women’s soccer and softball teams.
