SMCC and Saint Joe’s strengthen partnership with 13 new transfer agreements

Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) and Saint Joseph’s College of Maine are proud to announce the signing of 13 new articulation agreements that allow SMCC students to seamlessly transfer to programs at Saint Joe’s, continuing their educational journey.

Articulation, or transfer agreements, enable students to plan their college careers in advance by comparing coursework between programs offered by both schools. The agreements help them avoid taking unnecessary credits and spending money on courses that won’t count toward their advanced degree and provide a more precise path to entering the workforce.

“We are steadfast in accomplishing our goals to offer students an easier path to higher education and provide them with the necessary support to succeed,” SMCC President Joe Cassidy said. “These new agreements allow SMCC students to reach their individual goals while preparing them to meet Maine’s crucial workforce needs.”

These new articulation agreements are in addition to the recently announced Community² program. Community² will allow students to be part of the culture of both institutions with ten transfer agreements from SMCC to complementary programs at Saint Joseph’s and removing administrative barriers for students saving students time and money. Community² also makes Saint Joseph’s housing available to SMCC students in their second year. “We’re thrilled to deepen our partnership with Saint Joe’s,” Cassidy said. “Community², added with these new agreements, gives our students an amazing opportunity for educational success.”

“I am so pleased to join with President Cassidy to officially launch this robust set of transfer pathways in high-demand fields of study. These new articulations – many of them within the framework of the innovative Community² program – go beyond academics and career preparation. They bridge two great educational communities in a new way, offering a seamless college career that takes the speedbumps out of the transfer process.”
