Out with the old, in with the new
You can say good-bye to the HUB’s 47-year-old bleachers.
Workers last week began dismantling the old wooden bleachers in the HUB gymnasium to make way for new retractable bleachers, which will be installed by Oct. 1.
The new bleachers will have blue seating made out of a composite material with the SMCC logo at the end of the aisle rows. They will be more comfortable than the old seating, have wider aisles and have better accessibility for handicapped persons, said Athletic Director Matt Richards.
“Having been here 13 years, the new bleachers will certainly improve the fan experience not only for athletics, but for all events for the college,” he said.
The bleachers are manufactured by Hussey Seating of North Berwick, Maine. The gym will not be open until the seating is completed, but the fitness center and other areas of the building are open as usual.
