Alumni Profile
Mike Fullerton, SMCC supporter
Mike Fullerton’s SMCC degree landed him jobs when he was younger. Now he’s the one hiring SMCC students and graduates as production manager of a precision manufacturing company.
Fullerton graduated from SMCC’s machine tool program in 1987 and went on to work for a plastics manufacturer, a machine shop and then the S.D. Warren paper mill in Westbrook before landing at LAI International, a leading contract manufacturer of precision-engineered parts and components for advanced technology industries.
Today he’s the production manager at LAI’s Scarborough facility, overseeing more than 150 production machines and more than 80 employees. He likes to hire SMCC graduates and students because he knows they’ll have the skills and the character his company demands.
“Manufacturing has gone crazy in the state of Maine. It’s difficult to find machinists right now.”
Student Profile
Faiz Rahman-Sabean, finance in his future
Faiz Rahman-Sabean wants to study finance at a four-year school after SMCC. He’s getting practice as treasurer of the Student Senate and Business Club.
Faiz, who is from Singapore, will graduate this spring with a business degree. Besides serving as treasurer of the Business Club and the Student Senate, he’s also vice-president of SMCC’s Phi Theta Kappa honors society.
Before moving to the U.S. in 2013, Faiz attended trade school in Singapore and earned a diploma in chemical engineering. But he much prefers SMCC.
“SMCC has professors who are passionate. They get to know you, you get to know them. It brings a whole new dimension to college.”
