Annual Fund
Every Gift Makes a Difference
A gift to the SMCC Annual Fund provides unrestricted funds for the College to use where the need is greatest. These gifts can provide immediate support to SMCC students and provide the College flexibility to address unforeseen opportunities or unexpected needs.

Planned Giving
Planned gifts or bequests (tax-deductible) are an excellent way to provide future support for SMCC while also helping to meet your personal financial goals and define your legacy. Planned gifts can support scholarships, capital projects or academic programs of your choice. Through a will or other legal means, your planned gift will have a lasting impact and ensure that higher education remains accessible and affordable.

Foundation Events
The SMCC Foundation offers a broad range of events from our annual Light on the Point gala to our spirited annual SeaWolves Athletics Golf Tournament. These events provide the opportunity to mingle with alumni, celebrate the College’s legacy and experience camaraderie, while contributing to SMCC’s bright future.

Foundation Employees

Matt Richards
Chief of Institutional Advancement & Engagement, Southern Maine Community College
Matt Richards has been with SMCC in several capacities since his arrival in June 2003. He currently serves as Interim Chief of Institutional Advancement and Engagement—tasked with strengthening and expanding methods to engage students, alumni, and community partners while identifying opportunities to secure funding needed to support critical initiatives at the College.
Prior to taking on this role in December of 2024, he has served as SMCC’s Director of Athletics and head men’s basketball coach when he arrived in 2003, then was given additional duties in 2016 as Associate Dean of Student Life and in 2021 became the Associate Dean of Athletics and Alumni Affairs.
Under his watch, the SeaWolves athletics program has developed into one of the most competitive small college programs in New England. Matt was appointed to the SMCC Foundation Board in 2017, where he serves on the Board’s Development Committee and oversees the annual SMCC Athletics and Foundation Golf Tournament.

Hayley K. Holzhacker
Advancement & Engagement Manager, Southern Maine Community College
Hayley K. Holzhacker serves as the Advancement & Engagement Manager at Southern Maine Community College, where she focuses on building relationships, fostering community connections, and supporting strategic initiatives that advance the college’s mission and student success. Hayley earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a minor in Psychology from St. Elizabeth University in New Jersey, where she played NCAA DIII Lacrosse & Soccer.
With a strong foundation in program design, nonprofit leadership, and impact storytelling, Hayley has developed and led initiatives that empower individuals, strengthen communities, and promote inclusive, human-centered approaches to education and engagement. Her work is grounded in collaboration, purpose, and a deep commitment to equity and access. She believes everyone deserves access to a quality education.
Hayley holds a Master’s in Non-Governmental Organization Management from Johns Hopkins University and brings a multidisciplinary perspective to her work in education, development, and public service.
Hayley encourages all students to engage in their passions and promotes active volunteerism within the community. Outside the office, she enjoys exploring Maine’s natural beauty, spending time at the barn with her horses, and walking her rescue dog, “Blake.”
