Student Life at SMCC PDF Print E-mail

studentlifeweb.jpgSMCC strives to engage students both inside and outside of the classroom by complementing the enriching classroom experience with a variety of activities for students. Students spend their free time relaxing on the beach just steps from their classroom, enjoying miles of oceanside trails on South Portland’s greenbelt, exploring the many islands in Casco Bay, or skiing Maine’s mountains. Just three miles away, Portland offers world-class concerts, baseball and hockey games, movies, museums, theaters, shopping, restaurants, and night spots for every taste. On campus, students can serve in student government, join student clubs, or compete on one of our successful athletic teams. The Hutchinson Union Building offers a large and busy gymnasium, three locker rooms, weight rooms, and a Wellness Center with exercise equipment. Students who are active participants in the life of the college are more likely to persist and be successful in college. Getting involved provides an opportunity to build connections with fellow students and with faculty and staff and to develop lifelong friends and mentors.

Whether you are living on campus or commuting to classes, your life outside the classroom is an important part of your total college experience. Activities, clubs, residence hall life, student government, and all that the Greater Portland area has to offer can be important parts of a well-rounded college experience.
