Welcome to the admissions website at Southern Maine Community College. The admissions and registration process at SMCC is coordinated through the Enrollment Services office. This is the first stop if you are interested in learning about SMCC’s programs and application process.

We encourage students to stop by Enrollment Services to pick up information about our academic programs, schedule an appointment with an Enrollment Services Coordinator, sign-up for a campus tour, or register for an Accuplacer assessment testing session.

Getting Started: The Application Process

SMCC maintains a rolling admissions policy for most programs allowing students to apply and be considered for acceptance throughout the year. Most programs usually begin in the fall semester. Spring semester admission is possible for most programs, but students may be limited to taking primarily general education courses.

Follow these steps to apply to SMCC:

  • Review the liberal studies and career and technical academic programs offered at SMCC.
  • Check for additional requirements for health science programs.
  • Submit application for enrollment with the $20.00 non-refundable application fee.
  • Submit high school transcript, proof of graduation or GED.

  • Submit official post-secondary transcripts (if applicable).
  • Determine if the Accuplacer placement test is required for you.
  • Apply for Financial Aid. (optional)

Upon Acceptance

  • Your acceptance letter should arrive within 2 weeks.
  • Transfer credits. Upon receipt of an official transcript, courses will be evaluated for program requirements. An official evaluation will be mailed within six weeks.
  • Submit required immunization form [Microsoft Word File] to Enrollment Services.

  • If you you’re an out-of-state student from within the New England region, taking a program not available in your home state, you may be eligible for a discount on our out-of state-tuition rates. See the New England Board of Higher Education website for details.

Signing up for Classes

  • Register Online for a Group Advising Session (be on the lookout for a postcard with details). Sessions start mid-November for students starting in the spring. Sessions start mid-May for students starting in the fall.
