Surfsite Hall
Surfsite Hall houses 93 men and women on three floors, including three student Resident Assistants and a professional, live-in Resident Director. Surfsite Hall is located diagonally up the hill from the H.U.B. Gymnasium on Surfsite Road.
Surfsite Hall has two common areas for students to study in groups or alone. The common areas have recreational equipment including a pool table, foosball table and a ping pong table. One common area has a TV that is often used for movie nights or for watching local sporting events. Each room comes with an extra long twin bed, chest of drawers, wardrobe, desk and desk chair for each resident and a microwave – refrigerator – freezer combination unit for each room. There is one bathroom on each floor that is used by the residents of that floor. Surfsite has a large laundry room on the first floor and a small laundry room on the basement level. These machines must be accessed using a SMART Card that can be purchased using the SMART Card Machine outside the Student Services Office in the Campus Center, so quarters are not necessary.
The New Residence Hall
The larger of the two halls, the New Residence Hall offers sweeping views of the Portland skyline and Casco Bay from many of the upper floor windows. The hall houses 320 men and women in triple, double and single rooms with connecting bathrooms (two rooms with four students of the same gender sharing a bath). The bathroom has shower stall with its own door and a toilet stall with its own door and two sinks, so it is possible for all four students to coordinate using the bathroom at the same time.
The new hall is staffed with eight student Resident Assistants and a professional, live-in Resident Director. Each room includes an extra long twin bunkable bed, desk, desk chair and wardrobe with drawers for each resident and a microwave – refrigerator – freezer combination unit for each room. The New Hall is equipped with a front desk, which is open 24/7 when the building is fully occupied. The front desk is located in the lobby, which is also home to a TV lounge and gaming area that includes a pool table and a ping pong table. There is also a meeting room and three study rooms in the building. |
