Attending college as an international student can be an exciting and rewarding opportunity. Increasing numbers of international students are choosing to begin their higher education at community colleges.  Enrollments have grown 32 percent over the past five years, with more than 80,000 international students now attending community colleges in the U.S.

College is about learning new ideas, meeting different people, gaining new perspectives and enjoying varied experiences. SMCC has students of different ages, backgrounds and ethnicities, and offers a wide spectrum of clubs and activities that celebrate and support the diversity that exists on our campus.

SMCC international and multicultural students can participate in many activities to enhance their time at SMCC. In turn, their involvement in the SMCC community promotes global awareness on campus.

Examples of international and multicultural student engagement may include:

• Membership in Multicultural and International Student Club (M.I.S.C)
• Participating in International Education Week
• Volunteering in the community to promote diversity
• Participating in SMCC's International Food Festival
• Writing for The Beacon student newspaper about cultural diversity
• Joining student clubs and organizations to increase awareness of international and multicultural issues and diversity
