The Beacon is a student-run newspaper serving the entire SMCC community. The paper is distributed free-of-charge at various locations on campus, including the campus center, several classroom buildings, the enrollment services office, the dining hall, and the library. Published bi-weekly, The Beacon is read by students, faculty, staff, alumni, prospective students, and campus visitors.

The paper is operated by a student staff of five to ten, and is always looking for new staff writers. Staff writers can join The Beacon at anytime during the fall and spring semesters; candidates in good academic standing should submit a writing sample and will be asked to attend weekly staff meetings. The Beacon also accepts student contributor submissions. Reviews, editorials, and story ideas should be submitted in MS Word format only and should be sent via email attachment to beacon@smccme.edu.
