SMCC's Student Senate will host a TAKE BACK THE NIGHT rally, vigil, and healing fire on Thursday, April 24 at 4:30 pm at the College's Campus Center. Maine Attorney General, Steven Rowe, will be the keynote speaker. Other guest speakers include South Portland Police Officer Linda Barker, and advocates from Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine (SARSSM) and Family Crisis Services. The event is open to the public.

SMCC's Take Back the Night 2008 is a part of April's National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This event is intended to raise awareness around sexualized violence and honor survivors of such crimes.

BIOGRAPHY OF MAINE ATTORNEY GENERAL STEVE ROWE

Steve Rowe has been Maine's Attorney General since 2001. Prior to taking office, he served four terms in the Maine House of Representatives. During his last term in the Maine Legislature, Steve Rowe served as Speaker of the House.

As Attorney General, Steve Rowe has emphasized issues related to children and families, health care and prescription drugs, protecting the environment, civil rights education and enforcement, consumer protection, domestic violence and elder abuse. He has taken a leadership role in the National Association of Attorneys General, chairing committees dealing with prescription drug pricing, consumer health issues and underage drinking.

Attorney General Rowe holds a law degree from the University of Maine School of Law, a master's degree in business administration from the University of Utah, and a bachelor's degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve. Prior to becoming Attorney General, Steve Rowe was a litigation counsel with UNUM Corporation.

The father of four, Steve and his wife Amanda live in Portland.
