Southern Maine Community College's Public Safety Executive Command Training Program recently graduated 20 public safety professionals from 18 agencies around the state. A formal ceremony on March 14 marked the event.
The Public Safety Executive Command Training Program was developed to provide cross-disciplinary training of police, fire, corrections and emergency medical departments. SMCC's Criminal Justice program and office of Business & Community Partnerships partnered with the Maine Chief's of Police Association to identify topics that would assist command staff personal in becoming more effective leaders in their communities.
The two one-week sessions (which can be taken independently) award participants 3 college credits for successful completion. The program is open to all working public safety executives.
"Participants get a greater understanding of the similarities of each service and realize there is a benefit to working as a team for the public good," said Bill Herbert, Director of Health and Safety at SMCC.
