Southern Maine Community College is pleased to announce the 2008 Athletics Hall of Fame Class. Two inductees will be honored during a banquet on Sunday, October 5, 2008, at 1pm in the HUB Athletics Center on the South Portland Campus at 2 Fort Rd. Scott Bessey (Men's Basketball '96) was a guard on the 1995 and 1996 basketball teams that made back-to-back trips to the National Small College Athletic Association (NSCAA) National Tournament. During those two seasons Bessey was an outstanding shooting guard who currently ranks 2 nd all time at the College for most points (1,245). He also accumulated 165 assists which ranks him 7th all time at the College. Bessey lives in Standish with his wife Kristie and son Jace. He is a VP for Technical Support Services at Cheverus High School and also serves as assistant coach for the Cheverus Boy's Basketball Program.

Dan Boothby (Men's Soccer '94) played during the 1993-94 seasons, which included two conference championships. During that time he compiled 38 goals, 2nd all-time for scoring leaders at the College. Boothby also ranks within the top ten all-time at the College for assists. Boothby resides in Portland and is the General Manager for Diamond Edge Restaurant on Great Diamond Island, Maine.

"Both Dan and Scott had a tremendous impact as players during their time at SMCC," said Director of Athletics Matt Richards. "Induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame will serve as a benchmark for current student athletes that are striving to emulate their success."
