What is Student Senate?
Student Senate is the student government of Southern Maine Community College.
What does the Student Senate do?
The Student Senate represents the students of SMCC by participating in college governance including decisions on policies, procedures, and curriculum. The Senate represents the ideas and concerns of the students of SMCC to the administration of the college.
The Student Senate also receives a portion of the Student Activity Fee that you pay each semester. The Student Senate uses this money to plan activities both on and off campus, offer student discounts, and free services on campus.
Here are some of the things that the Student Senate has sponsored in the past year:
- The Welcome Back BBQ on August 30 - featured free food and activities
- The Beacon Student Newspaper - free student newspaper, written by and for SMCC students
- Winter Carnival
- Movie Ticket Discounts - discounted movie tickets sold in the Student Billing Office
