10/20/2009 - SMCC Softball Wraps Up Fall Season
South Portland - The Seawolves softball team finished second in the NECA Championships that were held at the Wainwright Complex in South Portland, ME. SMCC beat rival Central Maine Community College by a score of 7-5 to advance to the championship game. The game was 5-3 CMCC going into the sixth inning, but the Seawolves bats eventually woke up and were the eventual winners. They then took on number one seed UNH-Club team and lost 5-0. This gave the Seawolves an overall fall record of 7-4.
Darcey Webster (Windham, ME) led the team with a .606 average. Other key contributors for the Seawolves include short stop Rachel Del Camp (South Portland, ME) who hit .387. Helen Libby (Windham, ME), Kayla Ferrar (South Portland, ME), and Stacey Boulette (Fairfield, ME) were also huge contributors for SMCC.
The Seawolves look to continue and carry over their success into the spring.
9/16/2009 - Seawolves down mustangs in walk-off fashion
South Portland - The SMCC softball team won their home opener in dramatic fashion Wednesday afternoon against Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) rivals CMCC. The Seawolves pick up the victory moving their record to 1-0 while the Mustangs fall to 3-2 on the season.
Kayla Ferrar hit a solo home run in the fifth inning for the Seawolves and Rachel Del Camp hit a two-run shot in the sixth to tie the game. This all led to Helen Libby's single in the bottom of the seventh that drive in the winning run as the Seawolves walk-off with the 8-7 victory.
The softball team will be on the road this weekend as they take on YSCC opponent NHTI, Concord's Community College in a double-header starting at 12:00pm.
10/22/2008 - SMCC Fall Athletes Honored
South Portland – Southern Maine Community College is proud to announce ten fall athletes were honored with post season awards as well as one coach selected as YSCC Coach of the Year.
The Seawolves softball team won their second consecutive YSCC Fall Softball Championship and had four players honored as YSCC All-Conference team selections; Darcey Webster (Windham, ME), Melissa Sanborn (Gorham, ME), Kim Hunt (Oakland, ME), and Rachel Del Camp (South Portland, ME). Webster was also honored as the YSCC Player of the Year. Webster finished the fall season with a 0.543 batting average, 10 RBI’s, and scored 18 runs.
The Seawolves women’s soccer team had one player selected to the YSCC All-Conference team. Senior defender, Brooke Hardy (Holden, ME) was the anchor for the Seawolves defense. She was the captain and did all the intangibles for the team.
Alexander Jenkins (Harpers Ferry, WV) from the Seawolves men’s soccer team was selected to the YSCC 2008 Men’s All-Conference team for his leadership qualities. Jenkins and his team were 3-9-0 overall and fell to CMCC in the first round of the YSCC playoffs. Jenkins led the team this season in goals scored with three and also had two assists.
The Seawolves baseball team coached by the 2008 YSCC Coach of the Year, Phil Desjardins finished the fall season 13-1 overall and were the regular season champions. The baseball team had four players selected to the YSCC All-Conference team Scott Nappi (Portland, ME), Kyle Egbert (Gorham, ME), Coleman Findlay (South Portland, ME) and Nate Leeman (South Portland, ME). Nappi was also named YSCC Player of the year for the second consecutive year. Nappi finished the fall season with a 0.487 batting average, 14 RBI’s, and had no error in the field.
The Southern Maine Community College family would like to congratulate the athletes above for their outstanding play this fall.
10/5/2008 - Softball Crowned 2008 YSCC Fall Champions
South Portland - Kim Hunt was the winning pitcher in the semi-final and championship games for the Southern Maine CC softball team, which won the Yankee Small College Conference Tournament for the second straight year with a 4-0 win over the University of New Hampshire Club team at Wainwright Fields.
Kasey Farrington doubled home three runs in the sixth inning in the final game. Hunt also singled home the winning run in a 7-6 win over Central Maine CC in the semi-finals.
The Seawolves finish the YSCC fall season with an overall record of 9-1. Ironically their only loss came from UNH-Club earlier last week. The Seawolves have one non-conference game still to play on Oct. 18t at home against the Univeristy of Maine-Orono Club team. First pitch is set for 12-noon.
9/24/2008 - SMCC Softball takes two from CMCC
South Portland - SMCC softball took both games Tuesday night against Central Maine CC. The Seawolves dominated the first game winning 10-0 applying the mercy rule in the fifth inning and won the second 8-1; game was called due to the lack daylight. The sweep improves the Seawolves record to 6-0 in YSCC play.
The Seawolves got it done with the bats last night 24 hits, 6 doubles, 2 tiples and a homerun between the two games. In game one Ashley Probasco (Plymouth, MA) got the win allowing no hits while striking out four. Darcey Webster (Windham, ME) helped out the offense going 4 for 4 with a homerun. In game two, Kim Hunt (Oakland, ME) pitched 6 innings only giving up one run while striking out four in the second victory.
The Seawolves next appearance will be at Wainwright Field in South Portland, ME, Saturday, Sept. 27th at 12:00-noon. They will face YSCC opponent UNH-Club team and look to remain undefeated in YSCC play.
9/20/2008 - Softball Swept NHTI
South Portland - The Seawolves softball team swept YSCC rival New Hampshire Technical College this afternoon 10-2 and 11-0. The team improves their record to 4-0 overall and in YSCC play.
The Seawolves had a field day at the plate tallying 27 hits, 4 doubles, 6 triples and 1 homerun. In the first game of the double-header, Kim Hunt (Oakland, ME) recorded the win and in the second Ashley Probasco (Plymouth, MA) got the win. Both pitchers are currently 2-0 on the season.
Up next, on the road in Auburn, the Seawolves take on Central Maine CC on Tuesday, Sept. 23rd at 4:00pm.
9/17/2008 - YSCC Player of the Week
South Portland - Congratulations to first year player Rachael DelCamp. DelCamp was selected as YSCC Player of the week for her accolades in the teams double-header win against Colby Sawyer Club Team. DelCamp went six for eight with a homerun and also tallied five RBI's for the day.
The softball team has a tough match up this weekend against YSCC rivals New Hampshire Technical College. The game will be played at the Wainwright Complex with first pitch at 12:00 -noon.
