9/9/2008 - YSCC Player of the Week
South Portland - On their opening weekend at Fox Ridge Golf Course in Auburn, Maine, Jeff Cole had an outstanding performance which proved to be the best in the YSCC and so received the YSCC Player of the Week Award. Cole shot six over par to win the match by 10 strokes. Cole was an individual medalist and his score combined with his teammates was enough to win the match.
Next up for the golf team is the Maine Intercollegiate on Saturday, September 20th.
9/8/2008 - Golf Starts with a Win
SOUTH PORTLAND, ME - The golf team began the fall season this past weekend when they teed off in their first tournament at Fox Ridge Golf Course in Auburn, Maine. The team finished in first place with a combined score of 347. The Seawolves had the top four individual score for the tournament as well. Jeff Cole (78), Adam Fenderson (88), Ryan Hannigan (89), and Dan Feeney (92).
The Seawolves Golf team is in a state of rebuilding this year with 4 newcomers and no returnees for the fall 2008 season. The team is made of all local Maine kids with the top competitor for the team being freshman Jeff Cole from York, Maine. Teammates, Adam Fenderson (Westbrook, ME) Ryan Hannigan (Bethel, ME) and Dan Feeney (Portland, ME) will all look to contend for the 2008 Yankee Small College Conference Title as well.
Newly hired head coach Matt Greenleaf has high hopes for these first year players. “I am looking forward to the 2008 season. Although the team may not be deep in numbers, they make up for it with excellent play.” said Greenleaf
7/2008 - SMCC Hires New Golf Coach
SOUTH PORTLAND, ME – Southern Maine Community Colleges Athletic Director, Matt Richards, announced the hiring of Matthew Greenleaf as the new Head Golf Coach. Greenleaf will take the place of Dennis Junkins who served six seasons in the position before resigning this spring.
“I’m very excited about bringing Matt to SMCC. He has a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm and I think the golf program will see an immediate positive impact. I look forward to what the future holds for the golf program,” stated Richards
Greenleaf brings with him plenty of experience and knowledge of the game and the local golf community. His most recent stint was as a sales executive for the Northeast Region of Sports Vision Technologies where he taught golf clinics and seminars to demonstrate the P3ProSwing.
When asked what his expectations are for the golf team, Greenleaf said, “I am looking forward to building a strong golf program where the team will be competitive and will compete for the Yankee Conference Championship each year.”
A native of Portland, Maine, Greenleaf is a 2005 graduate from the University of Maine at Farmington with a degree in Business Administration – Marketing and Athletic Management. Greenleaf’s athletic career included two and a half years enrolled through the Professional Golf Management Program at Methodist College in Fayetteville, North Carolina before transferring back home to Maine to play two seasons as a member of the UMF Golf team.
