October Liberty Mutual Athletes of the Month

South Portland, ME- The SMCC Athletic Department and Liberty Mutual have selected the Liberty Mutual male and female Athlete of the Month for October.
The Liberty Mutual Student- Athletes of the Month are selected on the basis of the all-around student-athlete. The characteristics of the student- athlete must exemplify not only athletic prowess, but effort and excellence in the classroom. The candidate is not solely judged on points scored, but rather on their contribution to the team's effort, leadership, integrity, dedication to team, campus involvement, and the ability to serve as the role model for current and future SMCC student- athletes.
The Athletes of the Month for October are Morgan Crespo (Chelmsford, MA) and Alex Jenkins (Harpers Ferry, WV). Crespo, is a women's soccer player for the Seawolves, and Jenkins a men's soccer player for the Seawolves. Both Crespo and Jenkins exemplify the qualities of this great honor both on and off the field.
Crespo was named the Yankee Small College Conference Player of the Year. She scored 11 goals, and had a total of 23 points. She averaged one goal per game on the season. Crespo also was an USCAA All-American nominee and an All-Conference Selection.
Jenkins was honored as a member of the YSCC All-Conference Team. He played in all 14 games, scored six goals, and had three assists. Jenkins had a total of 15 points on the season.
Crespo is an Early Childhood Development major and plans to graduate from SMCC in 2011.
Jenkins is a Liberal Studies - History Concentration major and plans to graduate in 2010.

September Liberty Mutual Athletes of the Month
Rachel Del Camp David Nealley
South Portland, ME- The SMCC Athletic Department has recently partnered with Liberty Mutual. This partnership has allowed for a new initiative. Liberty Mutual and the Athletic Department will be selecting a male and female Athlete of the Month for each month during the school year.
The Liberty Mutual Student- Athletes of the Month are selected on the basis of the all-around student-athlete. The characteristics of the student- athlete must exemplify not only athletic prowess, but effort and excellence in the classroom. The candidate is not solely judged on points scored, but rather on their contribution to the team’s effort, leadership, integrity, dedication to team, campus involvement, and the ability to serve as the role model for current and future SMCC student- athletes.
The SMCC Athletic Department and Liberty Mutual have team up and selected David Nealley (Portland, ME) and Rachel Del Camp (South Portland, ME) as the September Athletes of the Month. Both Nealley and Del Camp exemplify the qualities of this great honor both on and off the field.
Nealley, the starting catcher for the Seawolves baseball team helped the team finish as the fall season champions with an overall record of 10-6. He batted .302 with a slugging percentage of .581 including two home-runs and 15 RBI’s. His defense behind the plate and bat in the middle of the lineup were key factors in the Seawolves success.
Nealley is a sophomore majoring in Criminal Justice and plans on working as a detective upon graduating from SMCC.
Del Camp is the starting shortstop for the Seawolves softball team. She had an impressive fall for the Seawolves. She batted .412 with a slugging percentage of .853 including three home-runs. Her steady glove and consistent bat helped the Seawolves secure a spot in the fall playoffs.
Del Camp is a Liberal Studies – Biology major and plans on transferring to the University of Southern Maine to receive her Bachelors degree and eventually obtain a Ph.D. in Physical Therapy.

John Coyne (Men's Basketball ‘96) was the point guard on the 1995 and 1996 basketball teams that made back-to-back trips to the National Small College Athletic Association (NSCAA) National Tournament. During those two seasons Coyne was the playmaker who tallied 478 assists per game which ranks him 1st all time at the college. Coyne resides in South Portland. He is a Disability Claims Manager for Prudential Financial.
Craig Dagen (Men's Basketball and Baseball ‘91) played both basketball and baseball at the college. During that time Dagen accumulated 1,078 points (5th all time at the college) and 206 assists (4th all time at the college). On the baseball diamond, Dagen left with a career Batting average of .265. He is currently the Women's Basketball Coach and Sports Information Director at Maine Maritime Academy (MMA). At MMA he ranks with a .720 winning percentage and three straight trips to the NCAA tournament. Dagen resides in Castine, Maine
