10/20/09 - Men's Soccer Season Wrap Up
South Portland - The Seawolves men soccer team wrapped up their season with a 3-0 loss to NHTI-Concord's Community College in the YSCC championship game. This gave the Seawolves an overall record of 6-7-1.
Key contributers throughout the season include senior Alex Jenkins (Harpers Ferry, WV). Jenkins led the team with six goals and three assists and his leadership qualities were apparent throughout the season. Blais Whitney (Cornish, ME) had a team high seven goals. Other scorers include Devon Grant (Dexter, ME), three goals, Nick Link (South Portland, ME), four goals, Greg Swander (Windham, ME), four goals, and Alex Day (Portland, ME) who scored three times. The leader in net was Matt Richio (South Portland, ME) who picked up 109 saves on the year and had a GAA of 1.89.
09/18/09 - Lynx come out with a win over Seawolves
South Portland - The SMCC men's soccer team was home this Saturday as they took on the NHTI Lynx. NHTI took home the 2-1 win over the Seawolves. NHTI remains undefeated with the win over the Seawolves. The Seawolves overall record goes to 2-5-1.
Nicholas Papamichael scored on a penalty kick. Also scoring for the Lynx was Brad Degaetano who made it 2-0. Alex Jenkins scored from Peter Dole with seven minutes left, but it was not enough as NHTI holds on to win 2-1 stay undefeated.
The Seawolves will travel to conference rivals CMCC on Thursday, September 24th at 4:00pm.
09/18/09 - Men's Soccer Tallies First YSCC Victory

SOUTH PORTLAND, ME - The SMCC men's soccer team hosted the Eastern Maine CC Eagles on Thursday afternoon. SMCC dominated the game beating EMCC by a score of 5-1. The Seawolves improve their record to 2-4-1 while EMCC's record falters to 0-3-0.
Alex Jenkins scored three goals in the winning effort against EMCC. Travis Desjardins helped by pitching in with two assists. Blais Whitney and Greg Swander tallied one goal a piece to help secure the 5-1 victory. SMCC was aggressive the entire game out shooting the eagles 27-7.
The Seawolves will be back at home this Saturday as they will take on conference rivals NHTI at 2pm.
09/09/09 - Men's Soccer Preview

SOUTH PORTLAND, ME - The men's soccer team will open their Yankee Small College Conference 2009 campaign this Sunday, Sept. 13th against Northern Maine Community College. The game will be played on the SMCC campus with a start time of 11:00am. The Seawolves have been busy preparing for a tough conference schedule. The men's team is currently 1-2-1 on the season. Head coach Brian Dougher in his 5th season at the helm of the Seawolves is extremely excited about the potential of this young squad. He has several key newcomers that will contribute significant minutes along with a solid nucleus of returners. Dougher hopes to be competing for the 2009 Yankee Small College Conference Title. Tri-captains, Alex Jenkins (Harpers Ferry, WV), Andrew Payne (Naples, ME) and Lyle Conner (New Field, NH) are key returners for the Seawolves squad. Jenkins is the player to watch; he's the guy that makes it all happen on the field. When Jenkins is on the field the opponent needs to know where he is at all times. Jenkins led the team in goals last season for SMCC. Center mid-fielder, Conner also poses a threat offensively while Payne will be the center of the defense. Key newcomers expected to compete for significant minutes this fall are Travis Desjardins (Saco, ME), Derrick Taylor (Porter, ME), Joe Anderson (Kezar Falls, ME), and Blais Whitney(Cornish, ME). Taylor, Anderson, and Whitney are no strangers out on the field. All three played four years together at Sacopee Valley High School which will help this young squad with team chemistry. The Seawolves have one more non-conference match to get them ready for YSCC play. The Seawolves will travel to Lyndon State College this Saturday to take on the Hornets at 3:00pm.
09/02/09 - First Loss for the Seawolves
South Portland, ME - The men's soccer team lost this afternoon 5-1 to the Terriers of Thomas College. The Seawolves drop to 1-1-0 on the season. SMCC's lone goal was scored by Nick Link (South Portland, ME) while Devon Grant (Dexter, ME) tallied the assist. The Seawolves next match is on the road at the Albany School of Pharmacy Tournament this weekend.
10/22/2008 - SMCC Fall Athletes Honored
South Portland – Southern Maine Community College is proud to announce ten fall athletes were honored with post season awards as well as one coach selected as YSCC Coach of the Year. The Seawolves softball team won their second consecutive YSCC Fall Softball Championship and had four players honored as YSCC All-Conference team selections; Darcey Webster (Windham, ME), Melissa Sanborn (Gorham, ME), Kim Hunt (Oakland, ME), and Rachel Del Camp (South Portland, ME). Webster was also honored as the YSCC Player of the Year. Webster finished the fall season with a 0.543 batting average, 10 RBI’s, and scored 18 runs. The Seawolves women’s soccer team had one player selected to the YSCC All-Conference team. Senior defender, Brooke Hardy (Holden, ME) was the anchor for the Seawolves defense. She was the captain and did all the intangibles for the team. Alexander Jenkins (Harpers Ferry, WV) from the Seawolves men’s soccer team was selected to the YSCC 2008 Men’s All-Conference team for his leadership qualities. Jenkins and his team were 3-9-0 overall and fell to CMCC in the first round of the YSCC playoffs. Jenkins led the team this season in goals scored with three and also had two assists. The Seawolves baseball team coached by the 2008 YSCC Coach of the Year, Phil Desjardins finished the fall season 13-1 overall and were the regular season champions. The baseball team had four players selected to the YSCC All-Conference team Scott Nappi (Portland, ME), Kyle Egbert (Gorham, ME), Coleman Findlay (South Portland, ME) and Nate Leeman (South Portland, ME). Nappi was also named YSCC Player of the year for the second consecutive year. Nappi finished the fall season with a 0.487 batting average, 14 RBI’s, and had no error in the field. The Southern Maine Community College family would like to congratulate the athletes above for their outstanding play this fall.
10/12/08- SMCC Eliminated in YSCC Play In Game
Auburn- The SMCC men (3-9 overall 3-4 YSCC) fell in double overtime to CMCC (2 OT) 1-0 ending their 2008 season. The defending YSCC champions are eliminated in the playoff in the opening round ending three yaers of making it to the YSCC finals.
9/24/2008 - SMCC Falls to Dean College
South Portland - The SMCC men's soccer team was shut out by the Bulldogs of Dean College 7-0 this afternoon. This loss puts SMCC's overall record at 1-5-0 on the season.
While goalkeepers Matt Richio (Cape Elizabeth, ME) and Bryan Piaseczny (Alfred, ME) gave a valiant effort, the Bulldogs were too much netting 7 goals. Th Seawolves next match will take place at home on September 27th against non-conference opponent Hampshire College. Game time is set for 3:00pm.
9/18/2008 - Men's Soccer get first win of season
South Portland - The SMCC men's soccer team earned their first win of the season last night on the road against YSCC team Eastern Maine CC. The Seawolves shut out EMCC 2-0. The team improves their record to 1-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in YSCC play. Both SMCC goals were scored by second year player Stephen Hinkley (Parsonsfield, ME). Matt Richio (Cape Elizabeth, ME) and Bryan Piaseczny (Alfred, ME) split the time in goal and combined had 15 saves. The Seawolves hit the road for their next match. They head to YSCC rivals NHTI on Saturday, Sept. 20th. Game is slated for 2:00pm.
9/13/2008 - SMCC Soccer loses against Lyndon State College
South Portland- The hornets of Lyndon State College (VT) took a pair of soccer games against Southern Maine Community College with the women taking the opening game 6-3 and the men pulled away with a 4-1 win. In the opener, SMCC (1-2 overall, 1-0 YSCC) scored four minutes into the game with a goal from freshman Kris Peterson (Casco ME). Two minutes later Lyndon State tied the game 1-1 and added three more goals to end the half 4-1. SMCC freshman Cady Gagnon (Biddeford, ME) added two goals and an assist on the day for the Seawolves. SMCC women play again Tuesday at University of Maine-Augusta for a Yankee Conference match. In the second game of the day the SMCC men (0-3 overall, 0-1 YSCC) opened the game with goal from Edmond Wentela (Marquette MI) to take an early 1-0 lead. Lyndon state came back two take a 2-1 lead right before the half. The score would stay at 2-1 throughout the second half until the 39:00 mark when Lyndon State scored two goals to end the match with a 4-1 victory. The SMCC Men play again Thursday Sept 18 at Eastern Maine C.C.
9/12/2008 - Men's Soccer Preview
South Portland - The defending 2007 Men’s Soccer Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Champions look strong in the preseason. Last season the Seawolves finished 12-4-1 overall and 7-0 in YSCC play and took the 2007 conference title. Head coach Brian Dougher has the same expectations this season for his squad. The Seawolves return only four players from last year’s squad. Leading the charge for the team is forward Alex Jenkins (Harpers Ferry, WV). Jenkins tallied 8 goals and 4 assists last season. Coach Dougher will look to a few first year players to step up big and play a lot of minutes right off the bat. The team’s first match of the season was on the road in Randolph, Vermont. The Seawolves fell to the Knights of Vermont Technical College 1-0. Next up for the Seawolves is another game on the road against Navy Prep on Thursday, September 11 and then return home this weekend to take on Lyndon State on Saturday the 13th at 3:00pm.
