 The men’s basketball program has a rich tradition of success. The early success of the program dates back to the late 1960's and early 1970's when, then coach, John Dakin began to win consecutive New England Championships. The success continued in the late 1980's when Ira"Doc" Stockwell took over the program. During his seven year span at the helm, he guided the team to its first ever National Tournament appearance in the NSCAA National Tournament in Texas in 1994.
Since then the program has been participants in several national tournaments as a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). The program is now guided by Matt Richards. Recent success includes back to back Yankee Small College Conference titles in 2007 and 2008. During that time, the Seawolves also competed in the USCAA National touranment where they made back to back national semi final appearances finshing those seasons ranked fourth nationally.
The Southern Maine Community College Men's Basketball program continues to be one of the most successful small college programs in New England. The men's basketball program is a member of the Yankee Small College Conference which is the regional league of the USCAA, a national organization of small colleges throughout the country.
