SMCC Announces Athletic Hall of Fame, Accepting Nominations
Southern Maine Community College is pleased to announce the Athletic Department is now accepting nominations for the Third Annual Athletics Hall of Fame. SMCC wants to recognize former student-athletes, coaches, administrators, teams and supporters of SMVTI, SMTC, and SMCC athletics who have excelled in the College’s commitment to excellence. Nominations are due by Friday May 9, 2008. The Inductees will be honored in the fall.
The Athletic Hall of Fame was started in the fall of 2006. Since that time the College has inducted seven individuals into the Hall of Fame including Mark Dudley, Men’s Basketball/Baseball (1980); Greg Smith, Men’s Basketball (1996); and John Dakin, Longtime AD and Coach; Mike Welch, Baseball, (1983); Dale Storey, Men’s Basketball, (1988); Ira “Doc” Stockwell, Men’s Basketball Coach (1988-1995); and Carroll Rines, Former Sports Information Director.
“The Athletic Hall of Fame is an outstanding tribute to those who have had significant impact within the program. I can’t think of a better way to honor those accomplishments then having those individuals inducted,” said Matt Richards, Athletics Director/Head Men’s Basketball Coach.
Today the College’s Athletics program houses seven athletic teams. SMCC is a member of the Yankee Small College Conference and United States College Athletic Association, which is a national organization of small colleges from Maine to California.
