Courses You Can Transfer to SMCC

Courses in which a student has received a grade of "C" or better are accepted in transfer from regionally accredited institutions ("C-" not acceptable). There is no limit on the age of courses accepted for transfer credit. Courses must be comparable to those offered at SMCC. Transfer is determined by the appropriate academic department and administered by the Enrollment Services Office.

Minimum Number of Credits You Must Complete at SMCC

Students seeking an associate degree must complete at least 15 of their credit hours directly through the College. Students seeking a certificate must complete at least 9 of their credit hours directly through the College.

How to Transfer Courses

A request for transfer credit requires submission of an official transcript from the other college. Transcripts for incoming freshmen should be on file in Enrollment Services 30 days prior to the semester for which consideration for transfer credit is to be given. Transcripts from other institutions submitted to SMCC will become the property of the College and will not be reproduced and/or mailed to other institutions. A student's grade point average at SMCC will not reflect grades in courses transferred from other institutions.

Students who wish to transfer credit from a college or university outside of the United States must have their educational credentials evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). For more information, go to www.naces.org. This must be a “course by course” evaluation.
