Checks should be payable to Southern Maine Community College or SMCC. The student's name and ID number should be noted on the check. If a check is returned for nonpayment, a $30.00 fee will be charged.
Credit Cards/Debit Cards
The College accepts MasterCard, VISA, and Discover credit cards as well as debit cards.
Third-Party Assistance
Students must provide written documentation that would guarantee payment from employers or agencies prior to payment due dates. The Student Billing Office will bill these entities based on this information.
Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver
Southern Maine Community College offers a waiver for tuition charges for any Maine resident age 65 or older. Proof of age is required.
Native American Tuition Waiver
The student must provide documentation from the specific federal/state recognized tribe to qualify for this tuition waiver. The student is responsible for related fees.
Financial Aid
Once you have applied for financial aid, our office will begin crediting it against your account balance as it is received. SMCC policy states that the first money received in the Student Billing Office must be used to pay outstanding tuition, fees, or room and board charges on a student's account. If your financial aid creates a credit balance, the amount will be refunded to you within 14 days, beginning after the Add/Drop period.
Please familiarize yourself with your financial aid award letter and its handbook. It is important that you remember that any decrease in your credit load will reduce your grant eligibility. If you are eligible for a Federal Stafford loan, your must apply for the loan before it can be credited toward your balance. The SMCC Student Billing Office works closely with the Financial Aid Office. We recommend that you talk to that office or our office if you have questions regarding a reduction on your credit load and any implications with your financial aid.
No Financial Aid? Check Out Our Deferred Payment Plan.
SMCC's Deferred Payment Plans offer you the opportunity to divide your student account balance into monthly installments. This payment plan allows you to calculate the net amount due into four (4) equal payments [PDF file] or three (3) equal payments [PDF file]. There is a $40.00 fee per semester for the use of the plan. This fee cost is rolled into the account balance and that balance is then divided into three or four payments. The first payment is customarily due two or three weeks prior to the beginning of each semester.
The SMCC Deferred Payment Plan is only applicable for balances related to credit classes. The student must apply for the plan each semester.
