Financial aid is available to eligible SMCC students who apply and qualify on the basis of financial need. You do not have to be full-time to receive financial aid! Federal loans are available to students taking 6 or more credits per semester and some students who are eligible for a Pell Grant may still qualify taking as few as 3 credits per semester.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the only application that students must complete to apply for federal, state and SMCC student assistance, including grants, scholarships, Federal Direct Loans, and on-campus student employment. We encourage ALL SMCC students to complete the FAFSA!
SMCC’s FAFSA school code is 005525. SMCC’s priority filing date is MARCH 1.
- New students should file a FAFSA as early as possible and not wait until they are formally accepted into an SMCC academic program.
- Maine residents must file the FAFSA by May 1 to be considered for a Maine State Grant. Out-of-state students should check with their home state for the deadline for other states.
- Students are encouraged to file a FAFSA even if the priority date has passed as Pell Grants and Direct Loans are available throughout the year for students who qualify.
- Students must complete the FAFSA each academic year, as soon as possible after January 1.
