SMCC can assist with international education experiences, ranging from short-term study tours coordinated by our faculty to semester exchanges through partnerships with other colleges and organizations. While some programs are targeted for specific program majors, others focus on foreign language immersion, diverse cultural experiences, or more general studies.

Short Term Study Tours

Semester Abroad

IRELAND – Please consider the George Mitchell Peace Exchange program, which is a competitive scholarship open to Maine Community College System students in reciprocal exchanges with students from the Cork Institute of Technology.
GERMANY – CDS International offers exchanges for German and U.S. students that include competitive scholarship opportunities. Through the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange, SMCC students may travel to Germany for summer or semester programs as well as year-long exchanges. http://www.cdsintl.org/cbyx/cbyxfromusa.htm
MEXICO AND CANADA – SMCC is partnering with two colleges in Monterrey and Cancun, Mexico, and with two colleges in New Brunswick and Ontario, Canada, to offer semester-long exchanges for SMCC students in the Culinary Arts major. Scholarship Opportunities
Study Abroad programs are life changing, enriching, and very expensive. You should be planning your budget for study abroad early on in your process. Please know that Financial Aid can be applied toward study abroad.
You may want to consider applying to the Benjamin Gilman Scholarship Program, which is designed to assist students of limited financial means to pursue academic study abroad programs. http://www.iie.org/en/Programs/Gilman-Scholarship-Program
