The SMCC Honors Program offers students in every discipline the opportunity participate in an academically challenging and dynamic learning environment. Students in the Honors Program study advanced topics, conduct research, and engage in projects requiring critical thinking and extended analysis. The Honors Program also allows students to customize their honors experience to complement their major or meet individual interests. Honors students at SMCC can work closely with faculty members, enhancing their academic experience at the college.
The SMCC Honors Program emphasizes flexibility, allowing students to participate in as much, or as little, of the program as is desired. Participating in the Honors Program does not obligate students to meet all of the graduation requirements of the program. An honors student may choose to take advantage of only one or two offerings within the program. Students completing all of the requirements of the program will graduate as an Honors Program Scholar.
The SMCC Honors Program is open to any student seeking an enriching academic experience. If you wish to go on to a four year institution, aspire to attend graduate or profession school, or simply have a passion for learning, please contact me about participating in the SMCC Honors Program.

Students benefit from a learning community with:
- small class sizes,
- teacher-to-student mentoring,
- team-taught interdisciplinary courses,
- and the opportunity to work one-on-one with a faculty member to craft personalized learning experiences.
Honors students have many opportunities to do research or a studio art project; participate in Thinking Matters, a student research, creativity, and scholarship symposium; present their work at seminars or conferences and/or publish their writings in the student journal, Writ.
