South Portland – The Maine Cancer Foundation (MCF) today presented a $1,000 donation to Southern Maine Community College’s Hannemann Fund, created in honor of Dr. Jake Hannemann to award scholarships to radiation therapy students at SMCC. The donation was given in recognition of SMCC’s support of the MCF’s Tri-for a-Cure fundraiser hosted on the College’s South Portland campus.
Julie Marchese, race director, called the partnership a win-win and said the College had made the Tri-for-a-Cure team “feel so welcome we wanted to give something back.”
SMCC President James Ortiz said the event was in line with the College’s mission. “This is a beautiful site and we are pleased to be able to share it for such an exceptional cause.”
The Maine Cancer Foundation (MCF), founded in 1976, is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well being of Maine people by: Funding scientific laboratory and clinical research, professional and public education and patient support programs. 100% of funds raised remain in Maine.
Dr. Jake Hannemann was the force behind
the establishment of the radiation therapy associate degree program at SMCC. A retired radiation oncologist, he serves on the SMCC radiation therapy
